Dhaka, May 25, 2025 (BSS): The first consignment of Bangladeshi mangoes will be exported to China on May 28 (Wednesday).
Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen will join a ceremony at the CIP gate of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday afternoon to mark the export. The process of exporting Bangladeshi jackfruit and guava to China is also underway.
"We hope Bangladesh will soon be able to start exporting hilsa to China," the Chinese ambassador said recently. "After all, Chinese food lovers can eagerly wait to enjoy this delicious fish on their dining tables."
Meanwhile, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on May 31 to discuss issues of mutual interest and "upgrade" Bangladesh-China economic and trade relations to a new level. The Chinese minister will lead a delegation of more than 100 Chinese investors.
During the two-day visit, Minister Wentao is likely to meet with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin, among other activities.
The Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh recently said that this will be the largest business delegation from China to Bangladesh, sending a "strong message" of openness, cooperation and mutual benefit.
