Deputy Director of the Rangpur Department of Agricultural Extension, Md. Sirajul Islam said that litchi production is increasing every year in Rangpur. Many people are now benefiting financially by growing litchi gardens like mangoes. Wholesale trader Abdul Kuddus Mia said that a lot of litchi is grown in various upazilas including Taraganj in Rangpur. We buy from the gardens and sell them at wholesale prices. Every thousand litchi is being sold at a price of 2.5 to 3 thousand taka. He said that litchi from Dinajpur has not started arriving yet. Before the litchi from Dinajpur reaches the market, Rangpur litchi is being sold well. Agriculturist Abid Komir Munna, associate director of Bangla Academy and officer-in-charge of Begum Rokeya Memorial Center, said that many people are getting cheated when buying red litchi in the market. However, before buying, you should check its color carefully. Good litchi is not just red in color. Litchis of a mixture of green and red are much more delicious.
