Humanitarian response awareness meeting in Jamalpur

Jamalpur May 16 (2025) : Every year, the people living in the floodplains of the Brahmaputra and Yamuna rivers face terrible losses due to natural disasters, such as seasonal or flash floods. The people living on the banks of the rivers are equally affected.

Pregnant and lactating mothers are at the greatest risk. When the waters are receding, where will they deliver? Where will they go? Who will deliver them? Where will they get emergency obstetric care? Reproductive health care has completely collapsed.

Since 2019, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has been providing reproductive health services to the region through Lamb Hospital, a development partner, in a joint initiative with the Department of Health, Government of Bangladesh. Such as: conducting reproductive health mobile medical camps in remote grasslands, distributing baby kits, and providing referral support to target populations, etc.

An information meeting was held today at the Unnayan Sangha auditorium in Jamalpur to select volunteers and identify beneficiaries in this area as an advance preparation for the flood.

Mahatab Liton, Manager of Obstetric Fistula Elimination Project at Lamb Hospital, played the role of the main facilitator in the meeting.

The coordinator of the awareness meeting was Abu Al Asad, Monitoring Documentation Coordinator.

The volunteers were provided with necessary advice for identifying obstetric fistula patients.
