Chapainawabganj, May 21, 2025 :- Just a few more days. Then the mangoes of Chapainawabganj will come to the market. Mangoes of this district, known as the mango capital, are appreciated by everyone. Garden owners and mango traders are hoping to make good profits by selling mangoes during the mango season this year. Meanwhile, the District Agriculture Extension Department authorities have set a target of Tk 2,000 crore for the mango trade in the district this year.

It can be seen on the ground that mangoes of various varieties have now ripened on the trees in the mango orchards. Extensive care is being taken in the orchards at the last moment. Mango farmers and traders are preparing to sell and buy mangoes. Already, two types of small-sized mangoes have also started coming to the market.
Mango farmers and traders said that ripe mangoes will come to the market in the last week of this month. This time too, the administration has not set a mango calendar. However, the administration has warned that marketing unripe mangoes will be strictly suppressed.

When I visited the garden of Ripon Ahmed, a mango farmer from Chakkirti Union in Shibganj Upazila of the district, I saw that he was busy tending the mangoes in the garden with several workers. Ripon Ahmed said that the mangoes will start ripening in a week. Several varieties of mangoes, including Gopalbhog, will ripen in the last week of May. Some other varieties of mangoes will come to the market in the second week of June. If the weather is favorable and the price is good, then we will make some profit.

Kamal, a mango farmer from Nachol Upazila, said that irrigation costs have increased due to less rainfall this year. Due to adverse weather conditions, more pesticides have also been used. Therefore, if the price of mangoes drops this year or if the weather conditions are adverse, there will be a lot of losses.

Meanwhile, there is a lot of activity going on in the district around the mango season. Gardeners are preparing to pick mangoes from the trees in Chapainawabganj. Market authorities are also making their advance preparations. Traders from different districts have already started contacting the traders around the country's largest mango market, Kansat.

District agricultural marketing officers and traders are seeing a potential mango trade of about Tk 2,000 crore this season. According to the statistics of the Department of Agricultural Extension, mangoes were cultivated on 100 hectares less land this year compared to last year. This year, mangoes were cultivated on 37,504 hectares of land in Chapainawabganj. The highest number of mangoes was cultivated in Shibganj. There are mango trees on 20,100 hectares of land here. The target for mango production this year has been set at 10.3 metric tons per hectare.

Deputy Director of Chapainawabganj Department of Agricultural Extension Dr. Md. Yasin Ali said, about 4 lakh metric tons of mangoes are expected to be produced in the current mango season. These mangoes will be sold at an average price of 50 taka per kg. Based on this calculation, mango trade of about 2 thousand crore taka is expected this year.
