The lizard was rescued from the barn of Abu Naeem Rahad's house in Sukhanpukur area of the upazila on Friday (May 16) morning.
According to local sources, a young man was frightened by the locals in the morning and caught it, thinking it was a sandpiper. Later, he locked the animal in the barn. As the animal looked like a sandpiper, confusion arose and the people of the area panicked. Later, upon receiving the news, Mahmudul Hasan Sohel, Publicity and Publications Secretary of Wildlife Snack and Rescue Team in Bangladesh, reached the spot. He told the people present the real identity of the animal, confirming that it was not a sandpiper, and cleared the confusion. Later, the lizard was rescued from the barn and released to a safe place.
In this regard, Mahmudul Hasan Sohel said, lizards are important animals in our environment. The one that was caught thinking it was a sanda, is actually not a sanda and does not harm humans. At this time, he urged people not to panic if they see such animals and to contact the forest department or them.
