Rangpur, June 18, 2025 : Testing activities for the detection of coronavirus have officially started at Rangpur Medical College Hospital from Wednesday. Rangpur Divisional Health Deputy Director Md. Wazed Ali confirmed the matter to BSS.

The Deputy Director of Health said that 400 corona detection kits have been initially provided to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. There are plans to introduce testing facilities in other hospitals of the division in a phased manner.

Divisional Health Deputy Director Wazed Ali said, "We have made all kinds of preparations. We have the capacity to deal with any kind of situation. So far, no corona patient has been identified in Rangpur division."

Those concerned said that if the scope of corona testing is expanded, it will be possible to take effective steps to quickly detect and prevent the infection. For this, the Health Department is emphasizing on increasing the capacity of local hospitals.

Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Shahin Sultana said, 'Even if the corona infection increases, people should not panic. Isolation beds have been prepared in the Upazila Health Complex for the affected patients. We have dealt with corona before. We can do it this time too. We just have to be aware.'

He added, "We are advising the general public to follow hygiene rules, avoid unnecessary crowds, and get tested quickly if suspicious symptoms appear. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted through various media."

Rangpur Medical College Principal Dr. Shariful Islam told BSS that initially, work is underway to prepare 10 beds in the isolation ward at the hospital. If 'ICU beds' are required, alternative arrangements will be made at the hospital itself. If the number of infected patients increases, an application will be made to the concerned authorities to prepare a separate corona hospital adjacent to Sadar Hospital and sufficient ICU beds, as before.

The Rangpur Divisional Health Director's Office said that the rate of corona infection in Rangpur division has been dropping to zero since October 8, 2022. The rate of corona detection in this region has been at zero for almost three years.
