Rangpur, June 13, 2025 :- Many people have come to their villages from their respective workplaces to spend the ten-day Eid holiday. But with the Eid holiday, this northern town is experiencing a heat wave. Public life is suffering due to the heat. People returning home for Eid are suffering. They are neither getting comfort at home nor are they able to go out. They cannot even think of meeting their relatives in the scorching heat.
Jannat Jyoti, a civil engineer working in a private company in Dhaka, traveled an 8-hour road in 22 hours to reach her home in Shahipara, Rangpur city, two days before Eid-ul-Azha. She thought she would spend the Eid holidays well and join her job. But the scorching heat has become a major obstacle to her Eid celebration.
Mahfuza Sharmin also came to celebrate Eid with her 6-year-old daughter. She could not go out anywhere due to the intense heat. Her daughter has been suffering from fever for two days due to the adverse weather. Like them, many people who came to celebrate Eid have faced problems due to heatstroke. They are not able to enjoy the joy of Eid due to the heat.
For the past few days, a mild to moderate heat wave has been sweeping through Rangpur and its surrounding areas. Due to the hot weather, people who had come home for Eid could not leave their homes. The meteorological office said that the maximum temperature in Rangpur and surrounding areas has been fluctuating between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius for the past few days. There is not a single cloud in the sky. The surface of the earth is heating up very quickly as the sun's rays fall directly on the surface.
Meanwhile, due to the extreme heat, various diseases including fever and cold have appeared in almost every house. The animal world has also started to have a negative impact. Cow, pig and chicken farmers are struggling to maintain the health of their animals. Due to the hot sun, the roads and streets are almost empty. No one is leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary. Today, Friday, when I walked around the various roads of the city, I saw that the roads were empty. There were hardly any people. Even if one or two businesses were open or closed, there were no customers.
A visit to the city's central bus terminal area showed several teenagers and adults swimming in a pond to escape the heat. Local resident Jalal Mia said that everyone was trying to cool off by diving into the pond, exhausted by the heat.
