Qurbani meat distributed among 6,000 needy people in Kurigram


 

Kurigram, June 8, 2025: Zakat Foundation of America has distributed sacrificial meat among about 6,000 needy people in Kurigram Sadar, Chilmari and Ulipur upazilas under the initiative. A total of 78 cows were sacrificed under the program.

Officials of the organization said that around 200 volunteers, in coordination with the district administration and upazila administration, have distributed this meat since Saturday.

Zakat Foundation of America administrative officers Md. Nurullah and Md. Masud Hossain, central joint conveners of the Citizens' Committee Dr. Atiq Mozahid and Faruk Ahmed, and journalist Syed Ahmed Babu were present during the meat distribution.

Hatia Union resident Mosha Sufia Begum became emotional after receiving the meat. She said, 'I don't know how long I haven't eaten beef, I have forgotten the taste of beef! I am very happy to receive beef today! I will eat it with my family in peace.'

Zakat Foundation of America Administrative Officer Md. Masud Hossain said, "Yesterday (Saturday) and today, we sacrificed 78 cows in three upazilas. This meat was distributed among those who cannot afford to buy meat. He thanked the volunteers and the administration of the three upazilas for their support in this work."

Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Nusrat Sultana said, "This is a commendable small initiative. I thank the Zakat Foundation of America for standing by the helpless people."
