Dhaka, June 19, 2025: Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions have emerged champions in the boys' and girls' categories of the National Gold Cup Football Tournament (Under-17), respectively.
The final matches of the two divisions were held at the National Stadium this afternoon.
After the game, Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan presented the awards to the players as the chief guest. Youth and Sports Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam presided over the program. Among others, Director (Joint Secretary) of the Sports Directorate Mustafa Zaman was also present.
Mymensingh and Rajshahi divisions faced off in the girls' division final. The girls of Rajshahi division played aggressive football from the start. Jannatul gave Rajshahi the lead by scoring a goal in the first half. Then Rajshahi increased its attack. Following that, Mousumi scored two goals alone to take the team ahead by a score of 3-0. In the end, Mymensingh could not score any more goals, and the girls of Rajshahi were overjoyed to reach the final for the first time.
In the boys' division, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions played aggressive football from the very beginning. Mymensingh took the lead in the first half with a goal by Mozammel Haque. Rangpur division created several opportunities but could not score any goals in the first half. Mymensingh division maintained possession of the ball for most of the second half. They took a 2-0 lead with a goal by Mehedi Hasan. But in the last five minutes, Rangpur captain Riyad messed things up. He scored two goals alone to bring the team back to parity.
As there were no more goals in the stipulated time, the game went to a tiebreaker. The boys of Rangpur were overjoyed to win the penalty shootout 4-3. Rangpur was also the champion in the first edition of this tournament in 2018.
This tournament started with games at the upazila level in June 2024 under the management of the Sports Directorate and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. In which about 1,10,264 players from the country participated. Then the district and divisional competitions with talented players ended in February this year. 40 talented boys and 40 girls will be selected from this national tournament. The Ministry of Youth and Sports will organize advanced training for them in the country and abroad for a long time.
