Tk 2 lakh fine for storing sweetened yogurt in potato cold storage

A fine of Tk 2 lakh has been imposed in Rangpur for storing sweet curd and ghee in a cold storage instead of potatoes. 

The fine was imposed during a raid on the city's Maina Kuti Agro Cold Storage Limited from 10pm to 12am on Wednesday (June 4).

The matter was confirmed by Mostafizur Rahman, Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Rangpur.

During the operation, 6,780 kg of illegal sweets stored in the cold storage were recovered and destroyed.

A cholesterol official said, "Here, the nutrition company stocked sweets in our cold storage because of the high demand during Eid. At their request, we kept some sweets. Although there are no rules for storing sweets. It was our mistake." 

Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Rangpur District Commissioner's Office, Joarder Asif Iqbal, said, "After receiving the information, I came here and saw that the cold storage authorities have stored sweets instead of potatoes. They cannot store sweets instead of potatoes. For this, both parties have been fined Tk 1 lakh and Tk 2 lakh each.

In this regard, Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Rangpur, Mostafizur Rahman said, "The issue of putting sweets instead of potatoes is a kind of fraud. The recovered yogurt and sweets have been destroyed. An educational fine has been imposed. If such an incident occurs again, action will be taken against the organization." 

72nd Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Humayun Qayyum said, "In view of Eid, sweets have been stored in cold storage instead of potatoes for the long-term community. They will send them to the market before and after Eid if they have time. Which is harmful to health. We are always active to prevent such harmful incidents.
