Bangladesh women's team has also overwhelmed Bhutan in the SAFF Under-20 Women's Championship. The Tigresses defeated Bhutan 4-1 to top the group.
This match witnessed an unprecedented incident. The venue of the match between Bangladesh and Bhutan was changed midway through. The second half of the match was shifted to the practice ground of the Kings Arena after the field became unplayable due to rain.
The King's Arena ground in Dhaka was muddy due to continuous rain since Tuesday morning (July 15). Although the game started on time, the field conditions quickly deteriorated. Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead in the first half. Shanti Mardi scored in the sixth minute to give the home team the lead. Trishna Rani's shot was blocked by the Bhutan goalkeeper, but Shanti was unable to catch the ball properly and sent the return shot into the net.
However, the playing conditions continued to deteriorate due to the rain. The players were unable to keep their balance in the mud and were falling repeatedly. Even when they took shots, the ball was stopping in the mud and water.
The second half could not be started after the break. Match Commissioner Ansar Asif visited the field twice and the field staff tried to control the situation. Then, around 5:30 pm, it was decided that the rest of the game would be played at the practice ground of the Kings Arena.
Bhutanese girls scored a goal in the 53rd minute at the beginning of the second half. However, Shanti Mardi did not take long to take the lead. She put the team ahead again in the 57th minute. Then, Bangladesh increased the gap with a goal by Munni Akhtar in the 76th minute of the match. Shanti Mardi scored a hat-trick goal in the 80th minute of the match and at the same time gave the Bhutanese girls a taste of a goal.
