District Representative , Rangpur, Published: 23 August 2025
As the number of patients at Rangpur Medical College Hospital is more than the number of beds, they are receiving treatment on the floor. Therefore, the government has planned to build a separate 560-bed hospital specializing in kidney, cancer and heart disease. The budget for this has already been passed. Even if we cannot do it, the next government will do it, said Health and Family Welfare Advisor Nurjahan Begum.
He made this statement to reporters after visiting Rangpur Medical College Hospital at 11:30 am on Saturday (August 23).
Regarding the syndicate of Rangpur Medical College, Health and Family Welfare Advisor Nurjahan Begum said, "Many doctors, nurses and technologists, including many others involved in healthcare, have died in COVID-19. We have respect for them. Because their contribution is unforgettable. Even then, action is being taken against those doctors, nurses and technologists who are involved in various criminal activities including syndicates."
He further said, "This movement, this movement, has caused many people to lose their hands, some to lose their legs, and some to lose their eyes. Those who syndicate have not seen these things. Will there be no change among them? So if there is no change among all of you and me, then how will the country change? Everyone has to think, what am I doing?"
Regarding the opening of the Rangpur Children's Hospital, he said, "I will look into the children's hospital, there is no reason not to open it. To build a hospital, it requires manpower, equipment, and the previous government did not plan for these. It is in our minds."
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, Rangpur Medical College Hospital Director Brigadier General Ashiqur Rahman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Shahin Sultana and other officials were present.
Earlier, he visited various departments of Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Before that, he visited Taraganj Upazila Health Complex. In the afternoon, he will visit the new proposed hospital at Darwani Textile Mill in Nilphamari Sadar Upazila.
