The inauguration of the 'Maulana Bhashani Bridge' built over the Teesta River on the Panchpir Bazar-Kurigram Chilmari Upazila connecting road in Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha has been held.
On Wednesday (August 20) afternoon, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, announced the inauguration as the chief guest by unveiling the plaque of the bridge.
Meanwhile, the inauguration of this bridge turned into a sea of people on both banks of the river. Thousands of people were excited as the plaque was unveiled. A wave of joy was flowing on the banks of the Teesta as if a dam had been broken. The faces of the suffering people were smiling.
Incidentally: After the inauguration of the 1490-meter-long 'Maulana Bhashani Bridge' over the Teesta River in Sundarganj, Gaibandha, road connectivity has been established between Panchpir Bazar of Sundarganj Upazila and Chilmari Upazila Sadar of Kurigram. Through the bridge, communication between Sundarganj Upazila and Chilmari Upazila will be easy. Industrial and agricultural products can be transported in a short time and at a low cost. Opportunities will be created for establishing small and medium-sized factories. The education system in this region will be developed and expanded. Short and long-term employment opportunities will be created for the poor people in the area. It will contribute to national economic growth along with the improvement of local socio-economic conditions. Tourism opportunities will be created. The communication distance between Gaibandha and Kurigram districts will be reduced by 40-60 kilometers. In addition, the distance between Chilmari and Dhaka will be reduced by about 135 kilometers.
In response to the long-standing demands of the people of this region, the bridge has been built with the funding of the Government of Bangladesh (GOB), Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) and OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). The total cost of the bridge is 925 crore taka. Length 1,490 meters. Width 9.60 meters. The number of lanes of the bridge is 2. The total number of spans is 31. It is a pre-stressed concrete girder bridge.
