Birganj in Dinajpur has been declared free from child marriage and child labor.


 

Dinajpur, September 12, 2025: Four unions in Birganj upazila of the district have been declared child marriage free and one union child labor free.

This announcement was made by Upazila Executive Officer Md. Tanvir Ahmed at the Shalbon Community Center auditorium today, Friday at 3:30 pm, organized by the Birganj Upazila Women and Children Affairs Department, in collaboration with the Upazila Administration and World Vision Birganj AP.

In his speech, he said that out of the 12 unions of Birganj Upazila, Mohanpur, Palatpur, Nijpara and Sujalpur Unions have been declared child marriage free and Sujalpur Union as child labor free areas. With today's announcement, the beginning of positive changes has been started in this Upazila. 

I hope that in the coming days, the other 8 unions of the upazila will cooperate with all concerned in implementing the goal of declaring child marriage and child labor free. This will create a safe and secure environment for children. He said that 19,103 teenagers from 4 unions have already been made aware through the initiative of World Vision.

Special guests at the event included Birganj Police Station OC Inspector Md. Abdul Gafur, World Vision Deputy Director (Field Operations) Jenny Mildred D'Cruz, Senior Director (Operations) Chandan Z. Gomez, National Director Suresh Bartlett, Upazila Youth Development Officer Jamil Uddin Mondal and Social Service Officer Md. Tariqul Islam, among others.

The speakers said that World Vision is continuing its activities with the support of the local people to make the entire Birganj Upazila free from child marriage and child labor by June 2027.

At the beginning of the program, the chief guest, the Upazila Executive Officer, distributed 40 goats among the needy families under the initiative of World Vision.
