Five young entrepreneurs have been harassed due to an internal conflict between the directors of Uttara Green Tea Industries Limited in Panchagarh. A press conference was organized by the victim's family on Wednesday (September 24) afternoon at the factory premises to protest the harassment through a case.
Young entrepreneur Arif Hossain read a written statement at the press conference.
He said, "The tea factory named Uttara Green Tea Industries Limited was closed due to a long-standing conflict between the directors. One side was led by former education officer Borhan Uddin's wife Irene Parveen, her children and brothers. The other side was led by Abdur Razzak and Tariqul Islam."
After the August 5th uprising, when Dr. Muhammad Yunus came to power through the fall of the fascist Hasina, he emphasized the importance of young entrepreneurs. Inspired by his motivational speech, we, five young entrepreneurs, the factory's MD and majority directors, started the factory's production activities according to an agreement with the permission of the court.
He also said, "Currently, the factory employs more than a hundred people. But a few months after taking the rent, Abdur Razzak filed a case in court with the aim of harassing us, naming the factory's chairman Irene Parveen, director Shah Alam Mithu, former education officer Borhan Uddin and my younger brother Rakib Hossain as defendants."
If the factory is closed again due to the conflict between the directors, then hundreds of families will lose their jobs. It is our moral responsibility to keep the factory running. Through this factory, the government's revenue is increasing and tea farmers are also getting the opportunity to sell raw leaves directly.
He said, "I think that all of us, including my younger brother Rakib, are actively involved in the production and management of this factory. We are being unnecessarily harassed by filing false cases against us. I strongly condemn this and demand that we be exempted from the case."
Also present at the press conference were entrepreneur Rakib Hossain, factory officials Maqbul Hossain, Montaz Ali, workers, and local tea farmers.
