Press conference demanding maintenance of fertilizer policy in Lalmonirhat

Lalmonirhat, September 29, 2025 : The Lalmonirhat district branch of the Bangladesh Fertilizer Association held a press conference demanding the maintenance of the existing fertilizer policy.

The press conference was held at the hall of the organization's office in the district town on Monday afternoon.

In a written statement, the organization's president Abdul Hakim said that in the current context, it has become very urgent to increase the transportation costs and sales commission of dealers. He mentioned that even though the price of fuel has increased several times, the transportation costs have not been adjusted. Similarly, despite the increase in bank interest, warehouse rent, employee salaries, loading and unloading and other costs, the commission of dealers has remained unchanged.

He further claimed that if father-son, husband-wife, or brother-sister in the same family run separate establishments and can provide the necessary documents as per the government's conditions, their dealerships cannot be canceled.

Abdul Hakim said that BCIC dealers have been operating their business in accordance with the rules set by the government since 1995-96. Currently, although the official price of urea fertilizer is Tk 1,350, it is being sold in the market for Tk 1,290 to 1,300. However, there is talk of increasing the price of non-urea fertilizer, which is a matter of concern.

He further said that the government is providing fertilizer at subsidized prices at the farmer level. If tax is imposed at source on this subsidized fertilizer, the market will become unstable and prices will increase at the local level.

District branch vice-presidents Nazrul Islam Badal, Nasir Uddin, joint general secretary Masud Rana and other leaders of the organization were present at the press conference.
