Dinajpur, September 14, 2025 : A day-long workshop on wheat variety innovation and expansion through speed breeding method was organized by the Wheat and Maize Research Institute in Dinajpur.
This workshop was organized by the Nashipur Wheat and Maize Research Institute of Sadar Upazila from 11 am to 3:30 pm today, Sunday.
A workshop titled "Development and Extension of Ultra-Fast Wheat Varieties through Speed Breeding Method" was held in Bangladesh under the funding of the Program for Development and Extension of Ultra-Fast Wheat Varieties through Speed Breeding Method.
Md. Abu Jubair Hossain Bablu, Additional Secretary, Research Sub-Division, Ministry of Agriculture, was present as the chief guest at the workshop.
In his speech at the workshop, he said that wheat cultivation should be promoted as a cultivable crop among the farmers of the country through the newly invented speed breeding method of Dinajpur Wheat and Maize Research Institute. Farmers will be able to achieve higher yields through this newly invented wheat cultivation. In the past, farmers were not interested in wheat cultivation because of the idea that wheat cultivation yields less and requires more effort. But now farmers will be able to achieve higher yields through this newly invented wheat cultivation. He called on all concerned to promote wheat cultivation by motivating farmers on this issue.
In the workshop held under the chairmanship of Dr. Salahuddin Ahmed, Director General of Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute, Dinajpur, a paper on the success of newly invented wheat was presented by Dr. Abdul Hakim, Director of the Program for the Development and Expansion of Ultra-Fast Wheat Varieties through Speed Breeding Method in Bangladesh.
The workshop was attended by Dr. Md. Mahfuz Razzak, Director of Planning, Training and Technology Transfer, BWMRI. Scientists, officials and employees of various agricultural and research institutions of the Wheat and Maize Research Institute and 30 farmers participated in the seminar.
Before the workshop began, the chief guest and other guests inspected the various scientific equipment and various food products made in Dinajpur in the seed storage facility of this institution.
