BNP Metropolitan Unit convener Shamsuzzaman Samu held a consultation meeting with journalists titled 'Prosperous Rangpur' to outline the development vision for Rangpur-3 constituency ahead of the 13th National Parliament election. At the meeting, the BNP nomination hopeful presented 19 proposals in the development vision to move forward the neglected Rangpur by avoiding the politics of compromise in the candidate election to overcome the previous infertility.
The meeting was organized at the auditorium of Rangpur District Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center on Tuesday (October 7) afternoon. Metropolitan BNP member Sultan Alam Bulbul, Principal Maqbul Hossain, Assistant Professor Shahinul Islam Shahin, Jamil Khan, Rezaul Karim Lablu and other leaders and activists of various levels of BNP were present at the time. In the 'Prosperous Rangpur' vision, Rangpur BNP and the convener of the Anti-Discrimination Citizens' Unity, Shamsuzzaman Samu, emphasized the importance of preparing alternative areas for self-reliance of the youth, adopting and implementing effective strategies for employment generation, providing collateral-free loan programs for the educated unemployed, breaking the deadlock in industrialization, reducing inequality and ensuring fairness for Rangpur in the national budget, adopting and implementing special programs for women's empowerment, creating a space and environment for expressing independent voices, making Shyama Sundari Canal health and environment-friendly for the city's residents, and developing Rangpur as a hub for information technology, education, and health.
In a written statement, he said that since independence, the members of parliament elected to this constituency have not been able to bring about the desired development of the people of Sadar. Through the 'Prosperous Rangpur' vision, a Science and Technology University will be established in Rangpur-3 Sadar constituency, government educational institutions will be increased in proportion to the population, unemployment will be reduced through technical education, the capacity of health-related institutions including Rangpur Medical College will be increased to ensure services, health insurance will be introduced, and affordable healthcare will be provided to the poorest of the poor. Samsuzzaman Samu further said that if elected, he will plan housing and urbanization in the city, increase the practice of information technology and science by prioritizing the ICT sector, modernize agriculture in the north, establish agro-based factories, facilitate the marketing and export of various agricultural products including Haribhanga mangoes and potatoes, create employment for the youth, empower women, open specialized hospitals for workers, ensure fair wages, prevent corruption in various fields including services, establish the rule of law and human rights, and eliminate economic inequality by announcing a meaningful and effective roadmap.
Promising to promote inclusive development, he outlined various action plans including ensuring secularism and minority rights, strengthening local government institutions to facilitate public services, dredging rivers, canals, berms, water bodies, and the city's Shyama Sundari Canal to combat environmental and climate change, modernizing tourist areas and increasing visitor facilities, industrializing by ensuring an investment-friendly environment, showcasing the district's traditional food and manufactured products to the world, and preserving and developing folk culture. Among the journalists who spoke at the meeting, Jamuna Television's senior staff reporter Sarkar Mazharul Mannan, Dhaka Post's own reporter Farhaduzzaman Faruk, Bhorer Dak's Rangpur correspondent Bablu Nag, Sakaler Bani's staff reporter Asaduzzaman Afzal, Pratidin Bangladesh's staff reporter Ehsanul Haque Sumon, ATN News' Rangpur correspondent Shahriar Mim, Karatoya's Rangpur correspondent Humayon Kabir Manik and Sajjad Hossain Bappi, among others, presented various recommendations for the development of Rangpur.
