Rangpur, October 24, 2025:

Teesta is the sorrow of two crore people in the north. The lives of the people of Teestapar become miserable due to floods and droughts. And that is why millions of people of Teestapar have come together to save Teesta.

The movement demanding the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan is becoming increasingly intense. As part of the ongoing movement in 5 districts of Rangpur division demanding the implementation of the Master Plan, a 'Stoddh Rangpur' program will be held on Thursday, October 30.

The Teesta River Protection Movement Committee has called for this program. According to the program, on Thursday, October 30, people from all walks of life, including teachers, students, farmers-workers, businessmen, shopkeepers, buyers-sellers, transport owners and workers, as well as office and court officials-employees, will stop their work at 11 am and stand in silence for 15 minutes wherever they are in the five districts of Rangpur division.

Drivers of vehicles - motorcycles, bicycles, trucks, buses or trains - will also stop their vehicles and remain at the same place for 15 minutes. Teachers in educational institutions will refrain from teaching classes and students will also stop their classroom activities.

The chief coordinator of the movement to protect the Teesta River, BNP's Rangpur divisional organizing secretary and former deputy minister Principal Asadul Habib Dulu has called for this program. The movement committee has called on people from all walks of life to stop all kinds of work for 15 minutes to show solidarity in this historic program to protect the existence of the Teesta River.

In this context, the chief coordinator of the Teesta River Protection Movement, Principal Asadul Habib Dulu, said that if the government does not start the Teesta Master Plan with its own funds in November before the election schedule is announced, a larger movement will be formed with the people of Teestapar. The entire northern region will be paralyzed.
He further said that the people of the northern region are united today in demanding the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan. The Teesta River is not just a river, it is a symbol of our livelihood and culture. The fate of about two crore people living in the basin of this river is linked to the flow and revival of its water. The 'Stobhadh Rangpur' program will be held on October 30 from 11 am to 11:15 am, which will be celebrated as a symbol of the just rights of the people of Teestapar. This 15-minute silence will be an echo of the collective protest of the Teesta people, through which it will be conveyed - 'If Teesta survives, North Bengal will survive, if Teesta survives, Bangladesh will survive.' Earlier, various programs have been held across the five districts of Rangpur division - Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram and Gaibandha - under the banner of the movement to protect the Teesta River. On February 17 and 18 of this year, lakhs of people held sit-in programs at 11 points on the banks of Teesta.

On October 5, a memorandum was sent to the Chief Advisor through the District Administrators and on October 9, mass processions were held in the upazila towns. In addition, on Thursday, October 16, at 7 pm, lakhs of people of Teestapar simultaneously lit torches along both banks of the Teesta River along a distance of 130 kilometers. Lakhs of people also participated spontaneously in this program. The participants holding torches simultaneously chanted slogans like 'Jago Bahe, save Teesta', 'We want a fair share of Teesta', 'We want the implementation of Teesta Master Plan'. This movement is gradually becoming more intense. The agitators have said that this movement will continue until the work of Teesta Master Plan begins.

When talking to the people of Teesta, they said that if Teesta is dredged and the master plan is implemented, then the lifeline of the north will change. This region will benefit economically. Therefore, they urgently want the Teesta master plan to be implemented.
