Cold wind blows in Panchagarh, temperature drops to 12 degrees
The temperature in Panchagarh, a northern border district located at the foothills of the Himalayas, has dropped to 12.8 degrees Celsius. The drop in temperature has brought on the chilly weather. The icy wind starts blowing in the evening. And with it, dense fog joins in. Due to this, vehicles have to drive with their headlights on even during the day.
According to the Meteorological Office, on Wednesday (November 12), a temperature of 12.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in Tentulia, Panchagarh at 6 am. The humidity level at that time was 98 percent, which was 14.5 degrees Celsius recorded last Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, the district's carpet and mattress shops have become more busy due to the drop in temperature. Sales have also increased at various warm clothing stores. There is a boom in making winter pithapuli. People are flocking to roadside shops to sample the delicious pitha.
Shuvo Islam, a stone worker on the Mahananda River in Tentulia Upazila of the district, said, "It is difficult to work in the freezing cold water in the bitter winter. I have to do this difficult work while thinking about my family." Van driver Rabiul Islam said, "Due to the extreme cold for the past few days, there has been less movement of people on the roads in the morning and evening. The rent is not being paid properly. The prices of everything in the market are high. If this continues, we will have to starve."
Meanwhile, as the cold weather continues to worsen, the number of people infected with cold-related diseases has increased. Children and the elderly are especially affected. The pressure on hospitals has also increased.
Jitendra Nath Roy, officer-in-charge of Tentulia Meteorological Office, said that the lowest temperature recorded in Tentulia, Panchagarh on Wednesday was 12.8 degrees Celsius. It has decreased by 1.7 degrees in a day. The temperature has been gradually decreasing for the past few days. However, the temperature may decrease further by the end of November.
