Notunhat in Nijpara Union No. 6 of Birganj Upazila of Dinajpur. Surrounded by green fields, ponds, and quiet village paths—in this peaceful environment, a new agricultural revolution is being born at the hands of a young man. His name is Asaduzzaman Ratan. He is young, but his dreams are big. And as a result of that dream, the land that was previously abandoned by the pond is now lined with thousands of green ginger trees.

Ratan's journey didn't start with any big plans—it started with curiosity and a desire to do something. A few videos he watched on YouTube, a few agricultural journals he read online, and some advice from the agriculture office—all of these combined to create his new idea: growing ginger in sacks.

Young agricultural entrepreneur Ratan said, "The area by the pond used to lie empty most of the year. So I thought - can this area be put to good use? I saw on YouTube that many people are now cultivating ginger in sacks. Then, with the advice of the agricultural office, I took the initiative."

He further said, "First, I mixed coarse soil, cow dung fertilizer, ash and vermicompost in a sack and buried the ginger seeds and tubers. I planted about 50 grams of ginger in each sack. With a little care, the plants have grown well in a short time."

He said, "I spent about 90,000 taka in the initial stage. I expected to make 3 to 4 times the profit if I got a good yield."

Nijpara Union Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Md. Moktar Hossain said, "Ginger cultivation in sacks is an innovative and climate-tolerant agricultural method. It reduces the risk of soil-borne diseases and also greatly reduces the risk of damage from heavy rain or floods. The sacks can be easily moved from one place to another if needed." He further said that ginger can be easily cultivated in this method in the backyard, rooftop, and even in fallow or low-lying areas. As a result, farmers can create additional income opportunities using a small amount of space.

Birganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Shariful Islam said, "The coming forward of young people like Ratan will change the future of our agriculture. Sack farming technology is currently one of the examples of sustainable agriculture."

He said, "Ginger cultivation in sacks is now becoming popular in various parts of the country due to the potential for high profits at low cost. Some are doing it in the field, some in their backyards or on their rooftops. The rural economy is changing with the use of modern agricultural technology and the creative efforts of young entrepreneurs."

He also said that Birganj's young entrepreneur Asaduzzaman Ratan is an exemplary example of that change. Under his leadership, an abandoned pond bank has been transformed into a ginger cultivation field full of green potential, which has also become an inspiration for local farmers.
