Journalists' workshop held in Kurigram to eradicate fistula


 

Kurigram, December 8, 2025: A workshop was held with journalists to further accelerate the fistula eradication program in Kurigram. 

This day-long workshop was organized at the Kurigram General Hospital auditorium at around 2 pm today, Monday. The Health and Family Planning Department, Kurigram organized this workshop under the LAMB-FRREI project.

The project is being implemented in Kurigram district with the overall support of LAMB and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Manju Ara Begum, LAMB's District Facilitator (Fistula), presented a power point on fistula at the workshop. She highlighted the importance of the role of the media in identifying patients, increasing public awareness, ensuring prompt treatment and achieving the goals on time. She sought the cooperation of journalists to make the field work more fruitful.

Kurigram Civil Surgeon Dr. Swapan Kumar Biswas presided over the program, while Kurigram General Hospital Superintendent Dr. Md. Nur Newaz Ahmed, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. ANM Golam Mohaimen, Kurigram Press Club President Raju Mostafiz, General Secretary Mahfuzar Rahman Khandaker and others spoke at the event.

The speakers said that in order to make Kurigram a fistula-free district, coordinated efforts of all departments including health, family planning, local administration and media are very important. The cooperation of all concerned is required to declare Phulbari and Bhurungamari upazilas fistula-free by this December and to achieve the goal of eliminating fistula in all upazilas of the district by 2030.

Journalists assured extensive media coverage to create awareness about fistula.
