Rezaul Karim Jibon, Rangpur :

Among the six constituencies in Rangpur, Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha-Kaunia) is currently the most discussed. Since independence, Awami League has won this constituency 6 times, Jatiya Party 4 times and BNP has won only 1 time. Since the change of power through the July Movement, BNP, NCP and Jamaat-e-Islami are preparing to reap the fruits of victory in the absence of Awami League and Jatiya Party. This time, BNP wants to turn around Emdadul Haque Bhorsa, son of late industrialist and former MP Rahim Uddin Bhorsa, in this constituency. BNR is hoping to regain the lost seat. But this time, the party's member secretary Akhtar Hossain will contest as the NCP candidate in this constituency. In addition, Jamaat's candidate is the party's Rangpur Metropolitan Amir Maulana ATM Azam Khan.

In the Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha-Kaunia) constituency, election campaigns have been intensified in the six parliamentary constituencies of Rangpur ahead of the 13th national election. Jamaat announced its potential candidates on July 5. On July 1, the party's convener Nahid Islam announced Jatiya Nagorik Party member secretary Akhtar Hossain as the candidate at the 'Desh Garte July Padyatra' road meeting at Kaunia bus stand in Rangpur. And after the BNP announced its candidate on November 3, the election atmosphere has started to spread in this constituency. However, although the Jatiya Party is not in the field, former Pirgachha Upazila Chairman Abu Naser Shah Mahbubar Rahman is announcing his candidacy on posters. The candidates of the two major parties are participating in election showdowns, processions-meetings, yard meetings, social, cultural, sports and religious activities, including yard meetings, every day. NCP candidate Akhtar Hossain has also already been touring different areas of Kaunia and Pirgachha upazilas. He is doing development work including yard meetings and public relations.

During Ziaur Rahman's regime, Mujibur Rahman was an MP in 1979. After that, no one could stand here in the remaining elections. Rahim Uddin Bhorsa and his younger brother Karim Uddin Bhorsa of the Jatiya Party were dedicated to the society including education, health, employment creation. Both of them spoke for the people of the area as MPs. They were called 'the trust of the poor'. Industrialist Emdadul Haque Bhorsa, son of Rahim Uddin Bhorsa, is plowing the field to regain the seat lost from that Bhorsa family. He first contested from Rangpur-4 constituency in the controversial 11th parliamentary election in 2018. Although he was defeated by Awami League candidate Tipu Munshi (former Commerce Minister) in that election, which was famous for night voting, he received millions of votes. Bhorsa, who is the president of Kaunia Upazila BNP, is seeing a golden opportunity to recover the lost seat this time. Emdadul Haque Bhorsa said, "People have not forgotten what my father and uncle did when they were MPs. I also want to do something for the people of the area, which people want to see now. I have been helping various educational institutions, orphanages and religious places of worship. Every year, we distribute 25,000 blankets to the cold-stricken people, and 30-40,000 saris and lungis during Eid. In addition to educational materials, we provide scholarships to students to prevent dropouts. These works are not done in the hope of votes, it is our family tradition. We were, are and will be for the people in the future. If elected, we will play a strong role in implementing the Teesta Master Plan, create employment in the region, establish factories, develop the communication system and improve the quality of life of the people. I want to move forward the backward Rangpur by gaining the trust of the people like my father." This time, he believes that the victory of the BNP's paddy sheaf symbol is certain with the restoration of my father's seat due to the spontaneous response of the people. Meanwhile, since the change of power through the July Movement, Jamaat-e-Islami is preparing to reap the fruits of victory like BNP in the absence of Awami League and Jatiya Party. The party's candidate Maulana ATM Azam Khan is a tested leader in the political field. He holds yard meetings, election campaigns and rallies almost every day. His posters and banners are adorning the areas including the hat and bazaars of Kaunia and Pirgachha. Jamaat candidate Maulana ATM Azam Khan said, "If elected as MP, I will work with emphasis on the rapid implementation of the Teesta Master Plan and creating permanent employment opportunities for all unemployed youth and working people, God willing. My goal is to eliminate the suffering of the common people by ensuring the prevention of river erosion through the implementation of this master plan. To ensure the rights of the neglected people, to eliminate unemployment, to provide practical education and work arrangements, and to expand education. To eliminate development disparities, roads and culverts will be constructed in underdeveloped areas with utmost importance on the communication system." He further said, "People want change, they want to see consistency in words and deeds. Because of this, people from all walks of life have increased their interest in Jamaat. They want Jamaat to come to power in the state at least once. I hope that if there are fair elections, people will support Jamaat and elect me to achieve their just rights."

The number of voters in Rangpur-4 constituency has increased by 47,000 this time, most of whom are young. A large portion of them may lean towards the young leadership. If the elections are held at the desired time, the NCP leaders and activists, who have the spirit of revolution, see the possibility that they will move forward with the support of not only the young community but also all classes of people. The party's member secretary, Akhtar Hoson, is getting an unprecedented response from the common people even in remote areas. Akhtar Hossain, a resident of Madhupur area of Kaunia upazila, studied law at Dhaka University. His political career began from there. In 2018, he went on a hunger strike alone to protest the leak of the entrance exam question paper, which made him nationally known. He then participated in the quota reform movement. Later, he participated in the DUCSU elections and was elected as the Social Services Secretary. Later, he played a key role in the July 2024 movement. He is currently serving as the member secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP). He has been conducting public relations, yard meetings, and election campaigns for the past few months on the eve of the elections in Rangpur-4 constituency. Akhtar Hossain said, Rangpur has always been deprived of development compared to other areas of the country. Among them, Kaunia Pirgachha Upazila of Rangpur 4 constituency is the most deprived. The development has not been done in the way that has been promoted. The people of remote areas have deeper problems - in many cases they are still backward. How can we take these people forward, how can they become self-reliant, that dream is being presented to the people. Overall, I am getting support from people of all classes and professions.

He further said that if the NCP is elected, it will formulate new laws for the welfare of the people. So that no one can squander the government allocation. For that purpose, the amount of allocation for mosques and temples will be published on signboards in the union and upazila parishads. Medical services will be ensured by establishing public service centers in rural areas.
