Bangladesh women's team showed their dominance by defeating Thailand by 39 runs in the first match of the Super Six stage of the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 Global Qualifier (ongoing in Nepal). With this victory at the Mulpani Cricket Ground on Wednesday morning (28 January 2026), Nigar Sultana Jyoti's team has now moved a long way towards getting a ticket to the main stage. They have a total of 6 points with the 4 points they brought from the first round.
Bangladesh lost the toss and elected to bat first and suffered a setback at the start. They lost 2 wickets for just 12 runs. But then Juairia Ferdous Joyita and Sobhana Mostari turned things around. Together, the two made a brilliant partnership of 110 runs off 82 balls. This pair turned the match around.
Juairia scored her first career fifty by scoring 56 runs off 45 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. And Sobhana Mostari was named Man of the Match for her brilliant innings of 59 runs off 42 balls with 9 fours and 1 six. Towards the end, Ritu Moni's short cameo of 15 runs helped Bangladesh post a challenging score of 165 runs in 20 overs. Thipacha Puthawong took 3 wickets for 22 runs for Thailand.
In reply, the Thai girls were unable to fight back after chasing the runs. Natthakan Chantham scored the highest score of 46 runs for the team. Narumal Chawai scored 30 and Nanapat scored 29 runs, but they could not build a big partnership. Bangladesh's bowlers bowled very controlled. Marufa Akhtar took 3 wickets for 25 runs, Ritu Moni took 2 wickets for 20 runs. In the end, Thailand was stopped at 126 runs, Bangladesh won by 39 runs. With this win, Bangladesh's women's team remained unbeaten in the ICC World Cup qualifiers by winning five consecutive matches. Jyoti's team will take on Scotland in the next match on Friday morning. Another win can ensure their place in the main round of the World Cup. However, the US women's team will face the Netherlands in the afternoon, and if the Netherlands wins that match, the girls' place in the main round of the World Cup will be confirmed today.
