District level awareness meeting on reproductive health development in Dinajpur

Dinajpur, January 7, 2026: A district-level awareness meeting of the 'Supportive Adolescents and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights' (SAY SRHR) project was held at the Dinajpur Parjatan Motel.

After the inauguration of the program at the hall of Dinajpur Paraton Motel at 2 pm today, Wednesday, Lamb Director-CHDP Utpal Minj spoke on the main topic. He emphasized the 'gender transformative' or gender-transformative approach of the project and highlighted the deterioration of reproductive and health of disadvantaged adolescents.

This 5-year project, funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented with technical assistance from World Renew Bangladesh, is being implemented by the non-governmental development organization Lamb to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) among disadvantaged adolescents (ages 10-24) in Birampur, Phulbari, Nawabganj, Hakimpur and Ghoraghat upazilas of the district.

Project Manager Md. Lutful Bin Faruk said that the project will be implemented in line with the six pillars of the World Health Organization's health system. The project aims to modernize union and community level health centers with a total of 192,478 direct beneficiaries, including 2,104 people with disabilities. 

Project leader Francis Mondal discussed the project outline. Lambe's executive director said that Lambe believes in partnership and will implement all the programs of this project in coordination with the government.

Dinajpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Asif Ferdous emphasized the importance of coordinating work between government and private institutions to provide separate healthcare services for adolescents.

Md. Mozammel Haque, Divisional Director - Family Planning highly appreciated the project and gave guidance to the project to work on supply chain management.

Also speaking were Dinajpur Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Dinajpur Municipal Administrator Md. Riaz Uddin.

Dinajpur District Deputy Commissioner Md. Rafiqul Islam presided over the meeting. In his closing remarks, he explained the importance of this project in achieving the goals of the government's health, population and nutrition sector programs.

He said, "It is a powerful declaration to ensure sexual reproductive health and rights and gender equality for adolescents in Dinajpur district. Through structural changes and ensuring services at the grassroots level, this project promises to build a bright future for the disadvantaged adolescents of the district."

Senior government officials from relevant offices and divisions at the district and upazila levels, representatives of international and national non-governmental development organizations, and journalists were present at the meeting.
