Nominations of six candidates for two Rangpur seats cancelled
Rangpur, January 2, 2026 : After scrutinizing a total of 20 nomination papers submitted for Rangpur-3 and Rangpur-4 constituencies, the nominations of six candidates have been declared cancelled. The nominations of 14 candidates have been declared valid.
District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan completed the verification and selection of each candidate's nomination papers as per the rules at the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner's conference room from 10 am to 4 pm on Friday.
At that time, candidates, supporters, proposers, district election officers, assistant returning officers, police superintendents, ACC officers, Bangladesh Bank officials and other relevant administrative officials were present.
The candidates who were rejected in Rangpur-3 constituency are BNP's independent candidate Rita Rahman, BAS's Anwarul Islam Bablu and Khelafat Majlis's Touhidur Rahman Mondal. The seven legitimate candidates in this constituency are Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal-BASD's Abdul Quddus, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Md. Amiruzzaman Piyal, Bangladesh Nationalist Dal-BNP's Md. Shamsuzzaman Samu, Jatiya Party's GM Quader, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Mahbubur Rahman Belal, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis's Md. Nur Alam Siddique and independent candidate Anwara Islam Rani of the third gender.
On the other hand, the candidates who were rejected in Rangpur-4 constituency are independent candidates Shah Alam Bashar, Md. Zainul Abedin and Jatiya Party (Anis-Ruhul) Md. Abdus Salam. The remaining seven candidates declared valid in this constituency are - Nationalist Party-BNP's Mohammad Emdadul Haque Bhorsa, Bangladesh Socialist Party-Marxist's Pragati Barman Toma, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis's Abu Sahma, National Citizen Party-NCP's Akhtar Hossain, Bangladesh Congress's Ujjal Chandra Roy, Jatiya Party's Abu Naser Shah Md. Mahbubar Rahman, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Md. Zahid Hossain.
Rangpur District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Enamul Ahsan said that the information of 20 candidates filed in Rangpur-3 (Sadar and Wards 10 to 33 Rangpur City) and Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha-Kaunia) constituencies out of the six constituencies in the district was verified from Friday morning to 4 pm.
Seven candidates have been declared valid in Rangpur-3 and seven in Rangpur-4. The nomination papers of a total of six candidates, three each in these two constituencies, were cancelled as per the rules.
He also said that the candidate has the opportunity to correct the matter through an appeal in the court. At the same time, executive magistrates have been appointed in each constituency to ensure a smooth conduct of the election. District Returning Officer Enamul Ahsan also said that action will be taken as per the rules if the code of conduct is violated.
According to sources from the District Returning Officer, 56 candidates have filed nominations for six parliamentary constituencies in Rangpur.
Of these, 9 candidates have filed nomination papers for Rangpur-1 constituency, 5 for Rangpur-2 constituency, 10 for Rangpur-3 constituency, 10 for Rangpur-4 constituency, 11 for Rangpur-5 constituency and 11 for Rangpur-6 constituency.
The District Returning Officer will scrutinize the nomination papers of candidates for Rangpur-5 (Mithapukur) and Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituencies tomorrow, Saturday.
