The Meteorological Office said that Tentulia in Panchagarh has recorded the lowest temperature in the country for the past five days. Sometimes a mild cold wave blows, while at other times a moderate cold wave blows over the district. At that time, the humidity was 91 percent and the wind speed was 8 to 10 kilometers per hour. As a result, the feeling of cold has become more intense. The previous day, the minimum temperature in Tentulia was 8.4 degrees Celsius. On the same day, the maximum temperature of the day was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius. The sudden drop in temperature has increased the intensity of cold.
For the past few days, various areas of Panchagarh have been covered in dense fog from dawn to dusk. In some places, the sun is not visible until noon. The fog density is increasing in the morning and evening. This is causing some disruption to traffic on roads and highways.
Low-income people are the most affected by the severe cold and fog. Daily wage earners, tea workers, stone workers, and hard-working people are unable to go to work regularly due to the cold. As a result, their daily income has decreased. Many families are also struggling to procure food properly. Winter nights have become a terrible hardship, especially for people living in the open air and without adequate winter clothing. They are suffering greatly due to the lack of adequate winter clothing. In such a situation, locals have called on the wealthy people of the society and the concerned authorities to stand by the cold-stricken and helpless people. It is feared that the winter hardship will increase further if necessary assistance, including the distribution of winter clothing, is not ensured quickly. Meanwhile, the health risks of children and the elderly are increasing due to severe cold and continuous fog. Children and the elderly are constantly suffering from cold, cough, pneumonia and respiratory diseases. It is reported that the number of cold-related patients in local hospitals and clinics is also increasing.
