Tarique Rahman seeks 'yes' vote in referendum

Published: 30 January 2026 : BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged everyone, regardless of party affiliation, to vote 'yes' in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.

He made this call while addressing a huge public meeting organized at the historic Collectorate Eidgaon ground in Rangpur on Friday (January 30) night as the chief guest. Tarique Rahman said, "Rangpur is the soil mixed with the holy blood of Abu Sayeed. It is our moral responsibility to protect the 'July Charter' for which nearly 1,400 martyrs, including Abu Sayeed and Wasim, sacrificed their lives."

He said that the unity that the common people had in the August 5 revolution must be maintained. Noting that the days of Nishirat or dummy elections are over, he urged the people to be vigilant in exercising their rights. Highlighting the development plan for Rangpur, the BNP chairman said, 'Although many call Rangpur a poor area, it is actually a very promising area. Our goal is to revamp Rangpur. Agricultural product industries will be established here and special facilities will be given to businessmen, so that massive employment will be created. Apart from this, we also have a plan to provide tax exemption to local IT companies for a specific period.' Explaining the party's future plans for the welfare of farmers and women, Tarique Rahman said, "If BNP comes to power, farmers' loans up to Tk 10,000 will be waived and agricultural cards will be delivered to them. Seeds and pesticides for at least one crop will be provided free of cost. In addition, the economic empowerment and rights of women will be ensured through the introduction of 'family cards.'" Addressing the crowd, he said, "We have told you our plan, what is your plan now?" When the crowd chanted "Sheaf of rice," he urged everyone to go to the polling station after performing Fajr prayers and exercise their right to vote.
