Teesta project is not starting right now, but don't spread despair: Rizwana Hasan

The Teesta project is being thoroughly scrutinized. So that there is no mistake. The project cannot be started until the scrutiny process is completed. Therefore, the project work is not starting on January 26. Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Information and Broadcasting and Water Resources Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan commented that no kind of disappointment can be spread without haste.

He made the remarks in response to questions from reporters after visiting the erosion-prone area of the Teesta River in Kaunia on Monday (January 19) at 11 am.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that both the governments of Bangladesh and China are committed to implementing the Teesta project. Political parties have prioritized the Teesta project in their election manifestos. But since the project is very complex, three aspects have to be considered: flood control, prevention of river erosion and irrigation. As a result, China is taking some time to prove its worth. He further said, the project has been sent to China with public hearings and opinions of experts at the national level. Now China is scrutinizing it. Bangladesh's relationship with China is friendly. Bangladesh's foreign policy is friendship with everyone. Apart from that, China is our neighboring country. So the relationship with China is deep. Apart from that, we share a river with China. They are coming forward to build a hospital in the Rangpur region. They are coming forward to build our health and infrastructure. However, the future of the Teesta project is bright. They have not stopped working. Rather, they are working, we are working. The advisor said, "The fair share of water is an ongoing process. These are rather political issues. So it is better for the elected government to come and do it. We have made preparations in both the Ganga and Teesta cases so that we do not have to wait any longer for the elected government to come."

Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen, District Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan and other officials were present at the event.

Meanwhile, he will participate in a referendum rally from the Rangpur District Commissioner's office at 2:30 pm.
