Use of 'Krishi Khamari App' in Dinajpur, a modern revolution in potato cultivation

Published: 20 January 2026 : The popularity of agricultural apps is increasing day by day in Dinajpur. With the help of modern technology, farming has become easy and profitable, so educated youth are now taking up agriculture as a profession. Production costs are decreasing, yields and crop quality are increasing - as a result, agriculture has now become not only a source of employment, but also a field of technology-based initiatives.

The youth of the Borail Banakali area are cultivating potatoes using Krishi Khamari apps in a cooperative initiative. As per the instructions of the apps, balanced fertilizer application, use of improved seeds, and limited use of pesticides and organic fertilizers are being ensured. As a result, they are becoming self-reliant.

Basanta Roy has cultivated potatoes on 33 acres of land by downloading apps on his smartphone. He said that the cost has been reduced by about 8 to 9 thousand taka compared to last year. The condition of the land is good, and he hopes the yield will be higher than before. Rakhal Chandra Roy said that 15 youths of the area have come together and cultivated potatoes on a cooperative basis on about 50 bighas of land. They are planting potatoes at the same time and using fertilizers and pesticides according to the apps. The potatoes are now about 45 days old, and can be harvested in 20-25 days. Dipu Roy said, "Our ancestors did farming but did not use modern technology. Now I am advising my father to apply fertilizer in the right amount. It has been possible to reduce the cost by about 7 to 8 thousand taka per bigha."

Deshbandhu Mahanta, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of the block of Chehel Gazi Union in Sadar, said, "Agriculture apps have quickly gained popularity as most farmers in the area are educated and use smartphones. Currently, potatoes are being cultivated using apps on about 80 bighas of land in this area. This has reduced diseases, increased land fertility, and farmers are becoming interested in using organic fertilizers." Abdullah Al Masud Tushar, Agriculture Officer of Dinajpur Sadar Upazila, said that potatoes have been cultivated on about 450 hectares of land in Sadar Upazila this season using agricultural apps. This has resulted in a reduction in the use of chemical fertilizers worth about Tk 163,000 and the amount of government subsidy has also been significantly reduced. The need for pesticides is also decreasing due to the balanced use of fertilizers through apps and the yield is increasing.

Visiting the potato fields of the agricultural land, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian said that the government wants to make agriculture more technology-based and profitable by inventing agricultural farm apps. If farmers ensure the proper use of these apps, production costs will be reduced, land fertility will increase and higher yields will be ensured.

He also said that if these apps are spread among educated farmers in rural areas, it will bring about a revolutionary change in the country's agriculture.
