2 Berobi teachers suspended over sexual harassment allegations

The university administration has temporarily suspended two teachers from Rangpur's Begum Rokeya University over allegations of sexual harassment.

The university's registrar and syndicate member secretary Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid confirmed the matter to Dhaka Mail on Sunday (February 8) morning. Earlier, the decision was finalized at the university's 119th syndicate meeting on Saturday (February 7) evening. The two expelled teachers are Md. Shamim Hossain, Assistant Professor and Assistant Proctor of the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences of Begum Rokeya University, and Dr. Shakibul Islam, Associate Professor of the Department of Disaster Science and Management. At the same time, it was decided that Dr. Shakibul Islam will never be able to supervise women again.

In this regard, the university's registrar and syndicate member secretary Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid said, the investigation committee has recommended punishment for these two teachers. The punishment will be decided by the administrative tribunal. It has been decided to entrust them to the tribunal. It has been decided that they will remain temporarily suspended until a specific punishment is expected from the administrative tribunal.
