Election environment completely destroyed: GM Quader
Published: 02 February 2026 :
Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad Quader (GM Quader) said that while the election environment was somewhat disrupted during the Awami League's tenure, it has now been completely destroyed. Violence, hatred and revenge in politics have never been so prominently observed as they are now.
He made these remarks during a public meeting as a candidate for the Rangpur-3 (Sadar) constituency in the Sonapatti area of Rangpur city on Monday (February 2) afternoon.
GM Quader said, 'In the past, even though all the parties were competing, there was a cordiality among us; we shook hands with each other, held meetings, and even participated in social events. But now that atmosphere is no more. Decency and etiquette have been lost in politics; foul language is being spoken. We have destroyed tolerance and respect for each other. I think that many things will come to an end through this election and it will create a 'grave' of many issues.'
He further said, 'After Ershad Saheb resigned in 1990, many influential leaders and parties, individually or collectively, said that the Jatiya Party would be destroyed. But in the 1991 elections, Hussain Muhammad Ershad proved how strong the party was by winning 5 seats from prison. Even though the Jatiya Party was not in power, it has acted as a controlling force in politics and is still doing so. Opponents have repeatedly conspired to wipe out the party, tried to divide the party through torture and lawsuits. However, the people of Rangpur have supported this party with utmost compassion and accepted it as their own party. As a result, our party has been resurrected time and again and even today we are playing an important role in the country's politics.'
In response to Hasnat Abdullah's statement about the Jatiya Party, the chairman said, "We have seen that those who have made negative comments or oppressed us in the past, even if Allah gives them leniency, He does not spare them. Many of those who have conspired against us have met with tragic consequences. I think that the current oppressors may also be given time, but they will be judged in the end."
Jatiya Party Co-Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, Presidium Member SM Yasir Ahmed, Vice Chairman Abdur Razzak and other leaders were present during the mass communication.
