PM directs to find ways to make Zakat management more effective and disciplined

Dhaka, March 9, 2026: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed to explore possibilities on how to make Zakat management in the country more effective and disciplined.

The Prime Minister gave this instruction at a meeting held on Zakat management at the Cabinet Division on Monday.

The Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony confirmed the matter.

Regarding some of the important decisions of the meeting, he said that the meeting discussed how poverty alleviation in the country is possible through effective zakat management.

The meeting also decided to restructure the Zakat Board.

It has been recommended to form a committee led by Religious Affairs Minister Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, comprising Allama Mufti Abdul Malek, Khatib of Baitul Mukarram Mosque, Shaikh Ahmadullah, Chairman of As Sunnah Foundation, and some top local Islamic economists and prominent scholars.

The Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary said that the Ministry of Religious Affairs will propose the names of those who will be in the full committee within the next ten days. The committee will soon submit its recommendations to the Prime Minister on the management of zakat and the restructuring of the Zakat Board.

At an iftar event in honor of scholars and orphans last Saturday (March 7), the Prime Minister said that proper zakat management can play a significant role in alleviating poverty in the country within the next 10 to 15 years.

It is in this context that today's meeting took place.

The meeting was attended by Religious Affairs Minister Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad, Religious Affairs Secretary Munshi Alauddin Al Azad, and As Sunnah Foundation Chairman Sheikh Ahmadullah.
