This stall, made of jute sticks, Nakshi Kantha and palm leaves, seems to have brought the tradition of rural Bengal to the fore. Native materials have been used throughout the stall. As a result, visitors to the fair feel the simple environment and culture of rural Bengal as soon as they enter the stall.
Every day, numerous visitors and readers visit the stall, take pictures and share them on social media. Many say that in the crowd of the book fair, it is not just a stall, but like a small courtyard of rural Bengal.
In this regard, Zakir Ahmed, the head of Pataprakash, said, “We wanted to connect our folk tradition with the book fair. Therefore, the stalls have been decorated with indigenous materials like jute sticks, Nakshi Kantha, and palm leaves. On the one hand, this is an environmentally friendly initiative, and on the other hand, visitors are getting the opportunity to get acquainted with the traditions of rural Bengal.”
He further said, “Books are not only a medium of knowledge, they are also carriers of culture. Therefore, we have tried to highlight that cultural identity in the design of our stall.”
