Will not deviate from promises made to the people: Prime Minister



Dhaka, March 10, 2026: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed his firm conviction that the promises made to the people will not be reneged on under any circumstances.

Noting that the implementation of the commitments may require some time in some cases due to the Iran war, the Prime Minister said, "We understand that the expectations of the people of the country are high from the current government. We will not change our position one bit from the promises we made. However, due to the global situation, the implementation of some commitments may take more time in some cases. Therefore, I request everyone to deal with the situation with patience."

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made these remarks at the inauguration of the new social security program, Family Card Distribution Program, initiated by the Ministry of Social Welfare, at Banani T&T Playground in Korail, Mohakhali today. 

The Prime Minister's wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman was present as a special guest at the event. It was presided over by Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.

At the beginning of the program, after reciting the Holy Quran, Vedas, Tripitaka, and Bible, the BNP party anthem was played. A documentary on the family card was shown at the program. Before the chief guest, Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain spoke. Then the national anthem was played.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman handed over 'family cards' to 17 women at the event. Immediately after handing over the cards, the head of government pressed a button on the laptop, and the cash was immediately transferred to the beneficiaries. At this time, the venue erupted in applause.

According to the Prime Minister, they want to play the role of a responsible government. A government that will work for the people and the country. The BNP-led government wants to be accountable to the people. 

She said, 'As a part of that, before the election of our party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, we promised the people of Bangladesh. We promised the women's community of Bangladesh that if the BNP is able to form the government, we will start the work of this family card.'

He added, "You must have noticed that, by the grace of God, we have started fulfilling this promise we made to the people less than a month after forming the government in the last election with the support of the people of Bangladesh."

Tarique Rahman ended his speech by saying, "I will work, I will build the country, Bangladesh first," the slogan used during the election.

Social Welfare Minister Professor Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain presided over the meeting, while State Minister Farzana Sharmin, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Milton, and Social Welfare Secretary Mohammad Abu Yusuf spoke.

Cabinet members, MPs, diplomats, and senior officials from various government departments were present at the event.
