Human chain with black cloths covering faces demanding road repairs in Rangpur

Published: 25 April 2026 : Locals have formed a human chain with black cloths on their faces, demanding immediate repairs to the road from Ship Company Cross to Satmatha in Rangpur city.

The Metropolitan Citizens Committee organized the human chain at the city's Ship Company intersection on Saturday (April 25) afternoon. People from different walks of life participated in the human chain. Speaking at the event were Palash Kanti Nag, member secretary of the Metropolitan Citizens' Committee, local businessman Partha Bose, Mohammad Ripon Islam, general secretary of the Ship Company Shopping Complex Shop Owners' Association, Salim Chowdhury, general secretary of the GL Roy Road Businessmen's Association, and Mahfuzur Rahman, member of the Citizens' Committee, among others.

Speakers at the human chain complained that despite repeated ultimatums from the shipping company to the local administration to repair the Satmatha road, there has been no visible development on the road for almost two years. Although various rumors have been heard that the budget has been passed, in the past few days and today, tomorrow, it has only been stalling.

The speakers also said that even though the road has been unusable for a long time, the City Corporation is not taking any initiative to rebuild or repair it. As a result, more than fifty thousand people who use this road every day are suffering. They accused the City Corporation of irresponsibility in this situation. At this time, they also demanded that the new administrator start the repair work of the road immediately. In this regard, Rangpur City Corporation Superintendent Engineer Azam Ali said, "A tender has been issued for the reconstruction of the road. Now the assessment work is underway. A work order will be issued soon to reconstruct the road and the work will begin."
