Rafiq appointed as spin bowling coach
Dhaka, April 5, 2026: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former cricketer Mohammad Rafiq as a specialist spin bowling coach with a view to finding quality left-arm spinners.
The BCB took this decision at the fourth board meeting held last night.
Rafiq is considered one of the greatest spinners in Bangladeshi cricket history. He became the first cricketer from the country to take 100 wickets in both Test and ODI formats.
Rafiq played 33 Tests, 125 ODIs and 1 T20I for Bangladesh. He took 100 wickets in Tests, 125 in ODIs and 1 in T20Is.
Rafiq was an adept at scoring runs quickly in the lower order with the bat. He scored 1,059 runs in Tests with 1 century and 4 half-centuries. In the 2004 West Indies tour of St. Lucia, the left-handed batsman played a beautiful innings of 111 runs off 152 balls, hitting 11 fours and 3 sixes, while batting at number nine. Rafiq also scored 1,191 runs in ODIs and 13 runs in T20Is.
Rafiq, 55, will work with junior and senior cricketers and will use his experience to improve Bangladesh's spin bowling.
