Class party: Excitement or anxiety?

Class party: Excitement or anxiety?

Published: 23 November 2025 :

There was a time when the sounds of prayers and milads would echo in the school verandahs before the annual exams. Teachers would place their hands on their heads and offer prayers, parents would look on with eyes filled with gratitude, and students would experience a kind of sacred peace amidst the tense atmosphere before exams.

Nowadays, that scene is increasingly rare. Its place has been taken by class parties, where the pomp, DJs, lights, and excitement of dancing and singing are filled with arrangements and the frenzy of making videos. Changes have come, whether due to the needs of the time or due to influence. But the question is, is this change helping our student society, or pushing it towards an invisible risk?

First of all, it must be admitted that this new trend called class party has some good aspects, which cannot be denied. The pressure of studying, exams, tuition and competition for a long time makes the brain of students tired. A little classmate chat, food or simple entertainment lightens their minds and deepens their relationships. There are many students who have talent in dancing, singing or presenting; class parties create an area for them to show that talent. It is true that this arrangement of friendship, teamwork and sharing memories, if controlled, also plays a role in the mental development of students.

When organizing a party, students have to plan - who will decorate, who will play music, who will bring the cake, who will take pictures. Doing all this as a team increases their leadership, sense of responsibility, and organizational skills. These experiences come in handy in any leadership role in the future.

A student's brain needs fun along with studies if it wants to function properly. Exams, festivals, celebrations are all part of life. If the class party is held in a controlled and decent environment, it can also help reduce their stress before exams. But the problem arises when this fun gets out of control.

There is no room for thinking that class parties are all positive. Rather, the form that this festival has started to take in recent years is the most worrying thing. In the last few years, it has been seen that some elements have entered educational institutions in the name of class parties, which are completely incompatible. Are loud DJ mixes, chaotic dancing and singing really compatible with the school environment?

Teenagers have a tendency to imitate, so they want to organize similar events at school after seeing the party culture on social media. But this is disrupting the educational environment. They themselves do not realize when decency breaks down amidst this excitement.

Added to this is another worry - extra expenses. A class party means decorations, food, decorations, sound system, all of which add up to a huge expense. Those whose families have less money feel uncomfortable. Some people spend extra money under pressure just out of fear of "looking less". This unwanted competition is also creating inequality among students - who wore the most expensive clothes, who brought the most expensive cake, all of which creates unnecessary comparisons and mental stress.

Prayers and milads were used for self-purification, humility, respect for the teacher and mental preparation before exams. Now class parties are diverting the attention of students to another world, a world of celebration and excitement. Without proper guidance, these events are making students inattentive, which is not at all desirable before exams.

Another concern is safety. With loud noise, crowds, and excitement, minor accidents can happen at any time. Sometimes teachers cannot control the entire party environment, resulting in chaos or unwanted incidents. When teenagers have a low sense of responsibility and high levels of excitement, the risk increases significantly.

The party atmosphere of fusion culture is taking over the place of indigenous culture. Educational institutions do not just teach studies - they also teach values, politeness, and codes of conduct. But in some class parties, dancing and singing, photoshoots, making TikToks, and taking couple photos can gradually weaken social and moral values.

So should class parties be banned completely? No. The changing times cannot be denied. Students need joy, they need to express their inner creativity. But if joy damages values, then it is not joy—it is a danger to the future. Therefore, what is needed is coordination, balance, and proper guidance.

If schools want, they can organize class parties in a simple, modest, decent and controlled environment. Class parties can be enriched with drama, poetry, storytelling, musical performances, and small exhibitions. It is fun and educational. But there should be no indecency, excessive pomp, or any element that spoils the learning environment.
If parents and teachers together guide the students, this event can take a healthy form. At the same time, positive traditions like doa-milad can also be preserved—which instill peace, restraint, and a sense of responsibility in the minds of the students.

The last thing is that school is the foundation of life. The habits that are formed here shape the future life. Class parties can be part of the festival, but they should never cover the light of education. There will be excitement, there will be joy—but everything will be in the shade of decency, within the framework of control. Because today's students are the builders of tomorrow's society. Their path should not be lost, but rather, in the balance of joy and responsibility—they develop into healthy, creative, and civilized citizens—this is the greatest expectation.
