2,500 centers in Rangpur division are important
Rangpur, February 10, 2026 : Police have taken a 6-level security plan to avoid any untoward situation in Rangpur on the occasion of the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum-2026. Police body-worn cameras will be installed in the centers along with the surveillance of detective police.
District Superintendent of Police (SP) Marufat Hussain told reporters this information after the election briefing parade of police members at Police Lines on Tuesday afternoon.
The SP said that to ensure a peaceful election, police will be deployed at 669 centers under the jurisdiction of the district police, and mobile teams, striking forces, sub-sectors and sectors will be deployed in union and municipal areas outside the centers to provide security to voters, voter turnout and election equipment. In addition to the surveillance of the intelligence police at the centers, the police will have body-worn cameras at 315 centers.
He also said that law enforcement agencies including the patriotic army, BGB, RAB, Ansar and others will work in the election field along with the police. There are 873 polling stations in Rangpur district. Of these, 669 centers are under the jurisdiction of the district police. CCTV cameras have been installed in these centers.
Marufat Hussain said, the electoral environment in Rangpur district is very good. There has been no chaos so far. We hope this will continue. At the same time, it will be ensured that voters can go to the polling station without any problems.
216 important centers in Rangpur:
The national parliamentary elections and referendum will be held in 873 polling centers in six parliamentary constituencies of the district. Of these, 216 centers have been identified as important by the law enforcement agencies. The remaining centers will be considered as general centers.
Among the important centers, there are 121 polling stations in the Rangpur City Corporation area and 95 in eight upazilas. Police have said that additional security measures will be taken at these centers.
Police sources said that these centers have been identified as important considering various factors including high voter turnout, previous arson and vandalism, lack of boundary walls, proximity to the homes of candidates or influential leaders of political parties, and remote and densely populated areas.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RMP) said that the Metropolitan Police will be in charge of the election in part of 3 of the 6 parliamentary constituencies of Rangpur district. Separate security arrangements have been made at important centers, including 204 centers in these places. In addition, 30 mobile teams and 78 striking reserve forces will work on election duty.
Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan said that the total number of voters in the six parliamentary constituencies of Rangpur district is 25 lakh 99 thousand 202 people. Of these, 13 lakh 6 thousand 333 are female voters and 12 lakh 92 thousand 838 are male voters. There are 31 transgender voters. Voting will be held in 4 thousand 988 booths in a total of 873 centers in the district. In this, 44 candidates from different political parties and independents are contesting.
Army commando group ready:
Meanwhile, the commando group of the army's 66th Infantry Division is ready to deal with any situation in Rangpur. If chaos occurs in any center in the remote areas of Rangpur division on election day, they will work to deal with the situation by dropping helicopters.
3,000 BGB members deployed in four districts:
In addition, 3,000 BGB members have been deployed in four districts of Rangpur division to control the law and order situation and maintain peace.
BGB Rangpur Sector Commander Lieutenant Colonel SM Shafiqur Rahman said that 74 platoons of BGB have been deployed in 26 base camps in Rangpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha districts under Rangpur sector. BGB members are working as mobile and striking forces along with flawless security and establishment of check posts in the constituency. BGB has paid special attention to maintaining peace and order in important centers of these districts.
BGB search operations are underway to provide security in the constituency. Besides, dog squads have been deployed at various places for important considerations. Patrols and intelligence surveillance have also been increased.
SM Shafiqur Rahman said that there are 2,572 polling stations in 4 districts of Rangpur division. Of these, 600 are important centers. In addition, representatives of the BGB coordination team are working at the district and upazila levels.
Meanwhile, in addition to the police, BGB, army, RAB, Ansar and Village Defense Force are working to strengthen security measures.
2500 important, 827 very important centers:
4,546 polling centers have been prepared for 1 crore 34 lakh 54 thousand 456 voters in 33 constituencies of Rangpur division. However, the administration has identified only 2,561 of them as important.
It has been decided to take extra precautions especially in the char areas, communication-cut areas and the centers near the houses of some candidates.
According to various sources in the administration, there have been allegations of attempts to seize polling stations, clashes, intimidation and influence peddling in these centers in the past. As a result, special plans have been taken to maintain law and order.
According to administrative sources, CCTV cameras are already being installed at these important centers. In addition, additional armed police and Ansar members are being deployed. There are vigilance teams and striking forces.
According to the information provided by the Rangpur Range DIG Office of the Police, there are 30 municipalities and 533 unions in 33 parliamentary constituencies in the division's eight districts. Of these, there are 4,546 polling stations. 827 have been deemed extremely important.
Rangpur Range DIG Aminul Islam said, "The police will perform their duties with utmost caution at important centers. Additional police will be deployed at every important center. Police members will have body-worn cameras, which will be monitored live from higher levels."
