Eid gifts and scholarships provided by 'Firedekha' initiative in Rangpur



Rangpur, March 6, 2026 : On the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid gifts have been distributed among children and teenagers in different areas of Rangpur and scholarships have been awarded to meritorious female students for the third time, under the initiative of literary, cultural and social organization 'Firedekha'.

Eid gifts were distributed to more than two hundred children and teenagers from Rangpur city and various surrounding upazilas at a function held at the Rangpur Zilla School Auditorium on Friday afternoon. Boys were given pants and shirts and girls were given frocks.

The organization has been conducting various social welfare activities along with literary and cultural activities with dedication for the past 13 years.

The main sponsor of the winning scholarship and this year's Eid gifts for children is Cynthia Khan, Vice President of the Bank of America, a US expatriate, mountaineer, poet, and novelist.

The event was attended by Additional DIG of Bangladesh Police and Commandant of Rangpur RRF Abdur Razzak, writer and essayist Rezaul Karim Mukul, Rangpur District School Headmaster Abul Kalam Azad, novelist Nargis Akhter Banu Jharna, Teesta Bachao Andolan leader and former Rangpur District School teacher Safiar Rahman, poets Ala Amin Islam, Fattahan Ali, Shafiqul Islam Abir, Mozammel Haque, Muntaha Marsi, Begum Rokeya University branch 'Firedekha' members Abdullah Al Asib, Sabrina Akhter and Arghya Zeb, among others.

The program was presided over by 'Firedekha' President Taposh Mahmud and moderated by General Secretary Shakil Masud.

At that time, a total of 240,000 taka of scholarships were provided to meritorious female students from Rangpur region. Each student received a scholarship of 24,000 taka for one year.

The scholarship recipients include Safa Sultana, a student of the English Department of Begum Rokeya University, Nupur Akhter, a student of the Education Department of Teachers Training College Rangpur, Sangeeta Rani, Sumaiya Mimtaz Swarna, a student of the Geography and Environmental Sciences Department, Dolna Akhter, a student of the English Department, Rasna Akhter, a student of the Economics Department, Tasneem Athai, an MBBS student of Rajshahi Medical College, and Mehezabeen Rahman Minati, a student of the Pottery and Sculpture Department of Rajshahi University.

Speakers at the event praised the initiative of the Phiredekha organization and the humanitarian work of its patron, Cynthia Khan.

They said that such a great initiative by Cynthia Khan is encouraging children and talented female students of Rangpur to move forward.

On the other hand, the children were filled with joy and happiness as they received new clothes for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. The event was declared over after the distribution of gifts and scholarships in a lively atmosphere.
